Orthopedic clogs, what are they?
Orthopedic clogs are shoes specially designed to help people feel comfortable while walking. Unlike ordinary shoes, this type of shoe gives better balance when you walk because there’s more room for the foot and the design gives you a better grip on the ground. The special feature of a clog is that it’s open at the back, yet still holds the foot firmly in place. Orthopedic clogs have a raised outsole at the heel as well as a thicker insole that offers greater stability to relieve foot pain and comfortably maintain body weight while walking.
The benefits of wearing orthopedic clogs
When we say orthopedic clogs, you’re probably thinking of medical staff who wear clogs, and this isn’t just a fad in this professional branch, but comfort footwear with a good number of advantages.
The design of this type of shoe is therefore conceived with a raised heel and a shock-absorbing outsole, this has the effect of better distributing the body’s weight and thus reducing fatigue of the feet and legs, by relieving the pressure they undergo, especially if you spend a lot of time in a standing position. This design also reduces or avoids knee and back pain, as your foot adopts a posture that’s comfortable for your whole body when wearing orthopedic clogs. As for the insole, it hugs your foot arch to protect it, so you’ll also avoid a good deal of pain and discomfort. What’s more, their open design allows feet to breathe freely, better than in other types of footwear, clogs generally have small holes on the top of the foot to let even more air through. As your feet breathe, you avoid the inconvenience of plantar fungus. You’ll also be able to fasten and remove your clogs very easily, a non-negligible advantage.
Orthopedic clogs, for whom?
Anyone can wear orthopedic clogs, whether you have a foot pathology, are elderly, work in the medical field or not, and even simply if you’re looking for comfortable shoes that respect your body by offering good posture. Orthopedic clogs can be worn by :
- People who work in a predominantly standing position: if you walk all day or adopt a standing position most of the time, clogs are particularly suited to taking the strain off your legs and feet, and you’ll feel much less pain at the end of the day. Their design also helps protect your joints, ligaments and prevent body imbalance
- People who have to lift and move heavy loads: thanks to well-distributed body weight, insoles that respect the natural shape of your foot and cushioning, non-slip outsoles, you’ll be able to lift and carry loads without damaging your back and without danger.
- Diabetics: with aggravated diabetes, your feet can suffer, swell or lose sensitivity. With orthopedic clogs, offering you great comfort and stability, your toes have all the space they need, to avoid blisters, corns or calluses and your arch will be perfectly supported
- People with foot pathologies: people with hallux, for example, can wear orthopedic clogs without discomfort, thanks to the width of the front of the shoe. People with sagging arches, too, can turn to this type of shoe and even add orthopedic insolesin.
